SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND FOR DERBY SALE GRADUATES

Derby Sale graduates enjoyed a successful weekend across Ireland and Great Britain most notably when producing a quick Grade 2 double on Saturday at Haydock and Naas.

THE NEW ONE did not favour ground conditions but ran on well in the closing stages to eventually win the Grade 2 Champion Hurdle Trial two and a half lengths ahead of his nearest rival at Haydock on Saturday. Nigel Twiston-Davies stable star remains on target for the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.

THE NEW ONE, sold on three separate occasions at Tattersalls Ireland, was eventually sold at the 2011 Derby Sale by Cleaboy Stud and Coppice Farm when selling to Highflyer Bloodstock for €25,000.

WOUNDED WARRIOR dominated the field to win the Grade 2 Woodlands Park 100 Club Novice Chase at Naas to win the contest by nine and a half lengths. This win is a career highlight for the six-year-old son of Shantou who has previously won a Point to Point, Bumper and over Hurdles.

WOUNDED WARRIOR was sold by Whitehorse Stud at the 2012 Derby Sale for €80,000 to his trainer Noel Meade.

At Leopardstown on Sunday, FOXROCK displayed a slick round of jumping and showed he was the standout horse in the race when comfortably winning the valuable Boylesports Handicap Chase.

Another Derby Sale graduate, FOXROCK was sold in 2011. The son of Flemensfirth fetched €15,000 when selling to Meadowview Stables by Morning Star Stud.

The catalogue for the February National Hunt Sale is now online. The sale takes place on Tuesday February 3rd and starts at 10am.
