Punchestown racecourse today (Tuesday, 14th April) made the major announcement that the Queally Group are the new sponsor of the Champion Hurdle at the upcoming Punchestown Festival, Tuesday April 28th to Saturday 2nd May. The newly titled Queally Group Celebrating 35 Years in Naas Champion Hurdle boasts a massive prize fund of €200,000 and is a race synonymous with the record breaking and four time winner of the contest Hurricane Fly who holds an entry for the 2015 renewal.
A small but top class field of eight line up for the festival Friday feature with the champion trainer Willie Mullins represented by a total of five entrants. Champion hurdler Faugheen is joined by stablemates Hurricane Fly, recent Aintree winner Nichols Canyon, Arctic Fire and Annie Power. The David Pipe trained Dell ‘ Arca is the sole British trained entry while Tiger Roll represents the inform Gordon Elliott and Gigginstown House combination. Last year’s winner and Aintree Hurdler victor Jezki also holds an entry at this stage.
Established by John and Peter Queally in Waterford, today the Queally Group operates six enterprises in Naas and from a starting point of 20 now employs over 1,000 people making Queally Group the largest employer in the Naas region. It is estimated that the combined contribution generated by the local economic activity of the Queally Group and Punchestown is worth in excess of €120 million each year.
