richard hughesAfter a blank first two days, two winners yesterday put Richard Hughes back on course for a fifth successive Racing UK Glorious Goodwood jockeys’ title. He and four others – James Doyle, Joe Fanning, Richard Kingscote and William Buick – have two victories apiece, but Hughes goes into the fourth day on top of the leaderboard thanks to his four second places, two more than Doyle.

┬áHughes’ winners, Ivawood and Shagah, both came for Richard Hannon, and today he rides six for his boss – with Pether’s Moon (Coutts Glorious Stakes), Shifting Power (Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes) and Sunset Sail (Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Nursery) perceived as his best chances – and Hamza for Kevin Ryan in the Betfred King George Stakes.

Doyle has two well-fancied mounts today: Captain Cat (Betfred Mile) and Son Of Africa (Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Nursery). Fanning has four rides, including Muteela, favourite for the L’Ormarins Queens Plate Stakes; Kingscote has three chances, with Red Icon (Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Nursery) highest in the betting; and Buick takes four mounts, including returning 2012 St Leger winner Encke in the Coutts Glorious Stakes.

Of jockeys currently riding, only Frankie Dettori has ridden more winners at Glorious Goodwood than Hughes. Dettori, without a winner from two rides at the meeting this week and without a mount today, has 58 winners to Hughes’ 52.
