Some of the best 5,6 & 7 year-old horses from around Ireland, battled for the 15 qualifying places on offer in each of the three age categories, in what was the first registered show jumping event at Emerald’s hugely impressive indoor arena.


Action got underway with the 5-year-old qualifier for the €3,000 CT PR and Event Management final at Emerald November Irish Masters, with victory going to Linda Moloney. The Kilkenny based rider was partnering the Tom Moloney owned mare Knightfield Arlie, who is by Luidam out of a Pioniere dam and they finished the second phase of the Tom Holden designed course clear in 27.51 seconds.

Daryl Walker riding the Laura Durkin owned gelding Kiss N Fly (by Guidam out of a Rame Z dam) slotted into second just over a second slower than the winners time.

Alan O Regan took third place with another Guidam sired gelding Freedam who is owned by Frances O Regan, stopping the clock clear in 30.50 seconds, while Michelle Desmond took fourth with PMH Pollyanna who is owned by Susan Keaveney.

Neal Fearon riding Mr Pleasure Drive Z took fifth just ahead of Nicola Fitzgibbon in sixth with Vague Des Monceaux.


The 6 year-old qualifier for the €3,000 Bourns Sport Horses 6 year-old Final at the Irish Masters saw another Kilkenny rider taking the winners prize. Ger O Neill, who will be hosting a Masterclass during the Irish Masters along with Greg Broderick, took top spot with Eamon Murphy’s impressive Indoctro stallion Dondoctro Ryal K who is out of a dam by Ahorn. Ger O Neill’s winning time of 24.27 seconds saw him finish over a second quicker than Phillip McGuane with the Barry O Connor owned Cantos gelding Dressel, while Alexander Butler finished third with Ronan McLaughlin’s Duco, who is by the sire Vincenzo.

Co Waterford’s Paul Beecher filled two of the top six places, he finished fourth with Crusing Star while he also took sixth place with Danqu while former army rider David O Brien took fifth with La Conda.


The final competition of the day was the 7 year-old qualifier, with Cavan born Neal Fearon coming out on top with Ivor Broderick’s Clinton gelding KMS Clintland who is out of a Corland dam. Fearon finished clear in 26.68 seconds while young rider Phillip McGuane took runner up spot with Barry O Connor’s Crocodile Dundee who is also by Corland out of a Goodtimes dam.

Nicola Fitzgibbon was back in the prizes with Castleforbes Tina (by Clinton out of a Carthago dam) taking third place just ahead of John Floody in fourth place with Shenick.

Francis Connors filled the final two places in the top six, he finished fifth with Erne Ladygoldilocks while also taking sixth with Charm School

The second and final round of Young Horse Qualifiers for the November Irish Masters takes place on Wednesday next October 29th at Emerald, with another 15 places on offer in each age category, while all three competitions will be open to participants who wish to jump out of competition on older horses if they wish.

The Emerald International Irish Masters runs from November 14th – 16th 2014 and features top class show jumping competitions with massive prize-fund of €55,000, along with a host of Masterclasses from top Show Jumping and Eventing riders.
