FBD To Sponsor Famous La Touche Race at the Punchestown Festival

Punchestown Racecourse today (Thursday 16th April) announced that FBD will be the new sponsors of the famous La Touche Cup Cross Country race at the upcoming Punchestown Festival, Tuesday 28th April to Saturday 2nd May.

The €30,000 FBD La Touche Cup will take place on day three of the Festival, Thursday April 30th and is one of the most historic and famous races on the Irish jumps calendar. The four mile one furlong stamina test incorporates 35 jumping efforts over a combination of natural obstacles such as laurel hedges, drop banks and traditional steeplechase fences. Despite being one of the longest races on the jump racing circuit the FBD La Touche often produces a thrilling close finishing.

The most famous obstacle on the track is the Ruby’s Double Bank named after the champion jockey’s late grandfather Ruby Walsh Senior while one of the most famous winning owners of the race is former James Bond actor Sean Connery who owned seven times winner of the La Touche, Risk Of Thunder. Limerick trainer Enda Bolger’s domination of the race has been halted in recent years but his record of 12 wins is testament to his talent for preparing horses for this famous race.
